Crewdle: meet the first carbon-neutral videoconferencing solution in the world

On April 22, we take the time to acknowledge Earth Day, an annual event that highlights the importance of protecting and preserving our environment, but also a day for us to show our continued commitment to bettering our planet.

In 2019, the world reached a record high of 36.7 billion metric tons of CO2. Although the COVID-19 pandemic led to a 5% decline the next year (34.81 billion metric tons), with the lifting of restrictions in 2021, we quickly saw a bounce-back of 6%, raising the balance back to 36.3 billion metric tons of CO2 produced.

Today's carbon dioxide levels are higher than they were at any point in the last 800,000 years

It is clear that we need to continue to invest in greener technologies and take on more sustainable initiatives – every day should be Earth Day.

And to mark this Earth Day, Crewdle is excited to announce that its videoconferencing platform is now carbon-neutral!

What does this mean?

To provide the greenest videoconferencing solution in the world, Crewdle leverages peer-to-peer technology to eliminate the need for servers, which are great polluters.

Did you know that servers are responsible for almost all of the carbon emissions caused by virtual communications?

Servers not only consume a lot of energy, but they also emit CO2 and use up a lot of water. Thanks to Crewdle, we’re able to drastically reduce your energy consumption and CO2 production usually required to host your video calls, and because Crewdle eliminates the need for servers, there’s no water being wasted.

In addition to being the first carbon-neutral videoconferencing platform, Crewdle is also the first communication service provider worldwide to obtain a carbon-neutral certification by choosing to invest in Gold Standard carbon credits from Planetair.ca, the Canadian non-profit leader in the fight against climate change.

So, to offset our own carbon footprint, we’ve made the choice to invest in carbon credits so that we can truly be a completely carbon-neutral platform!

The impact of your video calls on the environment

Crewdle was launched to tackle the effects of climate change associated with the increased use of videoconferencing solutions. We’re on a mission to change how we communicate, and simultaneously increase transparency when it comes to the environmental impact of our video calls.
