Private AI mode: the model provider keeps none of the data.
Switch it on when you hire an agent. The model provider does not retain the data, and the agent’s AI automation runs leave no trace in the run logs. It costs more and cannot be changed after hiring. It does not change where your data is stored or where the model runs.

What Private AI mode is
Private AI mode is for sensitive work. When you hire an agent in private AI mode, the model provider does not retain the data. This is also called zero data retention (ZDR).
If a request would need a model that does not meet this, Crewdle refuses it instead of quietly switching.
Private agents can use image, video, 3D and Roblox tools, but the promise does not cover the models those tools call. Private AI mode does not change where your data is stored or where the model runs.
Where to turn on Private AI mode
| Where | How |
|---|---|
| Hiring an agent | Turn on the “Private AI mode” toggle in the Refine step of the hire wizard. |
| Marketplace agents | Available when you hire a pre-made agent from the Marketplace. |
| AI automations | Use the “Private” toggle on the automation’s chat and its “Try it” panel. The automation runs of a private agent are private automatically. |
| Chat | Not available. Chat has no private mode. |
Which zero-retention models a private agent can use today
Today, a private agent can use OpenAI’s text models (except the deep-research models) and the Cohere embedding model that agents use for memory. Any other model is refused. A private agent can still switch model, but only to another zero-retention model. This list can change as more providers offer zero retention.
How it behaves
- You choose it when you hire the agent. It cannot be changed afterwards, and a private agent cannot become non-private.
- A private agent shows “· Private” next to its model.
- A private agent can switch model, but only to another zero-retention model.
- A private agent keeps its logs and history, stored in dedicated infrastructure in the region your organization chose.
- A private run of an AI automation leaves no trace in the run logs.
- A private run is refused if any block uses a model that is not zero-retention. The message names the models to switch to.
What it costs
Private requests are billed at 2.0 times the model’s list price instead of 1.5 times. That applies to agents and AI automations. It does not apply to agent memory embeddings, which stay at the standard price. Chat stays at 1.3 times and has no private mode.
What it does not do
- It does not apply to chat.
- It does not change where your data is stored or where the model runs. Model providers still run their own infrastructure, mostly in the United States. See Data residency.
- It does not make a promise about the models that image, video, 3D and Roblox tools call.
- If nothing may leave your computer, use a local model in the desktop app instead.
Private AI mode FAQ
What is a zero-retention model?
A model whose provider keeps none of the data it receives. A private agent’s own model must be one of these.
Can I turn private AI mode on for an agent I already hired?
No. Private AI mode is chosen when you hire the agent and cannot be changed afterwards, in either direction: a private agent cannot become non-private.
Which models can a private agent use, and can it switch?
Today, OpenAI’s text models except the deep-research models, plus the Cohere embedding model used for agent memory. Any other model is refused. A private agent can still switch model, but only to another zero-retention model.
What happens if an AI automation uses another model?
A private run is refused, and the message names the models to switch to.
Does chat have a private mode?
No. Private AI mode is for hired agents and AI automations. Chat is billed at 1.3 times the list price.
What does it cost?
2.0 times the model’s list price instead of 1.5 times, for agents and AI automations. This does not apply to agent memory embeddings, which stay at the standard price.
Is my data used to train AI models?
No, in any mode. Your conversations, documents and content are never used to train AI models, ours or anyone else’s. Private AI mode adds a stricter limit on what the model provider keeps.
Can a private agent use image, video, 3D and Roblox tools?
Yes. A private agent can use image, video, 3D and Roblox tools. Private AI mode makes no zero-retention promise for the models those tools call.
Does a private agent still keep its logs and history?
Yes. A private agent keeps its logs and history like any other agent, stored in dedicated infrastructure in the region your organization chose. This is different from a private run of an AI automation, which leaves no trace in the run logs.
Does private AI mode change where my data is stored or where the model runs?
No. Private AI mode means the model provider keeps no data. It does not change where your data is stored or where the model runs.
Need an agent for sensitive work?
Hire one in private AI mode, or talk to a person first.
